Service & Therapy FAQs

  • How do I pick the right therapist for me?
Research tells us that the relationship between the client and the therapist is one of the most critical factors impacting the change process. So, when you choose someone to begin this kind of work with, it is best to go with what feels right to you. We offer no-cost consultations (15 minutes by phone) to see if we are a good fit for you.
  • Is therapy right for me?
There are many reasons why people reach out for therapy. Sometimes, it deals with long-standing psychological issues, trauma, relationship issues or symptoms of anxiety or depression. Other times, it is in response to changes in one’s life, such as family planning, childbirth, traumatic experiences, divorce or work transition. Working alongside a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all life challenges. Therapy suits anyone interested in healing, feeling better, creating greater self-awareness, and working toward change.
  • How long do I need to be in therapy?
How long you will be in therapy depends on your needs. The research suggests that most therapy clients feel improvement in 12 – 15 sessions. Some clients feel better enough that they graduate within that time. Others enjoy therapy and want to continue as their lives change and evolve. Our goal is to help you meet your goals as soon as possible. As long as counselling continues to be helpful, we’ll support you.
  • What can I expect from my first session?
In your first session, we will begin by reviewing some policies and procedures. Then, we will discuss the issues that have brought you to therapy. We will listen and ask questions to gain a preliminary understanding of your concerns and your goals. If possible, by the end of the first session, we will have developed a plan to support you best as we move towards your goals.
