What Is NeurOptimal Neurofeedback ?
When we worry about what has happened or may happen, lose focus, feel depressed, or experience a traumatic event or illness, our CNS becomes chaotic. This is where neurofeedback can assist. The system we use is the NeurOptimal® neurofeedback advanced brain training system. During each Neurofeedback session, the system communicates the chaos through audio glitch noises. The brain returns to the present, away from the chaos. Throughout your sessions, the brain integrates this information and learns how to run itself in this new, more efficient, flexible and resilient way, easily making decisions. It clears the underlying causes of stress rather than chasing the symptoms. As a result, stress and reactivity are decreased, healthy sleep patterns may be enhanced, and the brain can operate more relaxed in various environments (school, work, relationships, parenting, sports, creativity).
How Does It Work?
During a neurofeedback session, EEG sensors are placed on the crown of the head and ears to collect information about the brain’s activity, which gets fed into the NeurOptimal device. You sit and relax while listening to music (you can scroll through social media, play video games, or read simultaneously). The NeurOptimal software identifies when your brain is about to do something new, like change states because your brain does a certain kind of “electrical dance” (turbulence). When that “dance” is detected, the NeurOptimal device stops the music in milliseconds and makes a glitching sound. The glitching sound triggers the orienting response, and the brain “comes into the present,” sees what it is about to do and takes in information about the external environment. All of this happens in milliseconds and outside of your conscious awareness.
