Who We Help

Our Services

  • Anxiety is a normal part of life - it can help us stay alert, prepare for challenges, and navigate difficult situations. However, when anxiety becomes constant, overwhelming, or interferes with daily life, it can make even simple tasks feel exhausting. At Mind Shift Therapy & Neurofeedback, we provide evidence-based anxiety therapy to help you regain control, find balance, and feel more like yourself again. We offer both in-person sessions in Barrie and virtual therapy across Ontario.

  • Brainspotting Therapy™ (BSP) was developed in 2003 by Dr. David Grand, an EMDR therapist, trainer and relational analyst. It is an effective therapeutic process that allows you to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain by utilizing specific points in your field of vision. By using relevant eye positions, somatic awareness and focused mindfulness with the help of a skilled therapist, you can process and release the traumas that have been stored deep within.

  • Depression is more than just feeling sad or having a rough day - it’s a persistent mental health condition that can impact every aspect of your life. If you’re struggling with overwhelming feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or exhaustion, know that help is available. At Mind Shift Therapy & Neurofeedback, we provide compassionate, evidence-based support to help you regain balance and rediscover joy.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy initially developed for folks with trauma and has since been recognized as an effective treatment for depression, anxiety, OCD, addictions, eating disorders, and many other mental health issues. The basic assumption of EMDR is that the brain is oriented toward health and healing and can achieve this (Shapiro, 2001, 2018). Like our bones’ natural healing process after a fracture, our brains want to heal from trauma. EMDR therapy stimulates the brain’s healing mechanisms to help achieve this goal.

  • NeurOptimal neurofeedback is a drug-free, natural, non-invasive form of brain self-regulation ‘exercise’ that trains your brain by improving the Central Nervous System’s (CNS’s) functioning.

  • Trauma is an emotional and psychological response to distressing or life-threatening events. It can result from a single incident, such as an accident or assault, or repeated exposure to stress, as often experienced by first responders, healthcare workers, or survivors of abuse. Trauma can affect thoughts, emotions, relationships, and even physical health.

  • Research tells us that the relationship between the client and the therapist is one of the most critical factors impacting the change process. So, when you choose someone to begin this kind of work with, it is best to go with what feels right to you. We offer no-cost consultations (15 minutes by phone) to see if we are a good fit for you.

  • There are many reasons why people reach out for therapy. Sometimes, it deals with long-standing psychological issues, trauma, relationship issues or symptoms of anxiety or depression. Other times, it is in response to changes in one’s life, such as family planning, childbirth, traumatic experiences, divorce or work transition. Working alongside a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all life challenges. Therapy suits anyone interested in healing, feeling better, creating greater self-awareness, and working toward change.

  • How long you will be in therapy depends on your needs. The research suggests that most therapy clients feel improvement in 12 – 15 sessions. Some clients feel better enough that they graduate within that time. Others enjoy therapy and want to continue as their lives change and evolve. Our goal is to help you meet your goals as soon as possible. As long as counselling continues to be helpful, we’ll support you.

  • In your first session, we will begin by reviewing some policies and procedures. Then, we will discuss the issues that have brought you to therapy. We will listen and ask questions to gain a preliminary understanding of your concerns and your goals. If possible, by the end of the first session, we will have developed a plan to support you best as we move towards your goals.
